THE SOCIAL ADVANTAGES OF CONDUCTING GROUP DISCUSSIONS

The evolution of civilized societies, in spite of its many drawbacks, has shown that creative ideas, discussions and debates are far more powerful than imagined and therefore deserve greater importance than it usually receives. Bearing this in mind, we at CGA regularly conduct Group Discussions (GDs) on various topics of economic and social relevance.

Those who actively participate in Group Discussions see it as an opportunity to improve their communication skills and to also speak knowledgeably in English for their career advancement . However to us, GDs are not only an opportunity to help our youth to improve their communication skills but to also make them better aware of the consequences of the various socio-economic problems we face and find solutions to the same. We do so in the faith that such awareness will encourage the youth to sooner or later contribute more vigorously, towards the socio-economic improvement of our society and thus enable us to carry forward our mission .

FLUENCY DEVELOPMENT COURSES

A report in THE HINDU dated 21st April 2009 read; “Mr.Ramdurai, CEO and MD of Tata Consultancy Services, India clarified that this shortfall would be of ‘employable’ graduates not of candidates themselves. There would be a large number of graduates in the market, but they would not possess the skill sets recruiters are looking for. If one were to draw a list of skills lacking in new recruits, HR Managers would put ineffective communication skills on top of the list”.

Most of the educated employment seekers are aware of the need to develop the skill to communicate fluently and confidently in good English but they are not sure of the best possible way to do so as a lot of confusion simmers in their mind. The cause of confusion is none other than the wild claims and blind promises made by people who offer quick-fix solutions for developing fluency in English.

If you want to develop the skill to communicate fluently and confidently in good English, you must first realize that there is no easy solution to improve your fluency and this is not due to any fault of yours. This is so because the human mind works in a peculiar way, that is, the process of speaking fluently - in any language for that matter - is under the influence of the sub-conscious mind rather than the conscious mind ( We don’t consciously think of each word before we speak, do we? ). Since repetitive practice is the only way to influence the sub-conscious mind ( especially in the case of acquiring fluency, in any language for that matter ) sitting in a group of 10 to 15 like-minded persons and undergoing speaking practice under the guidance of a competent Tutor is the most effective method of developing fluency in English.

There are certain things that can be learnt theoretically while others require experiential learning or practical training, there is no easy way whatever others may say. Don’t waste your time and energy on impractical ideas or quick-fix solutions. Come to CGA and attend 1 or 2 classes free-of-charge of any of the two fluency development courses we conduct and decide for yourself. Remember, experiential learning takes time and hence, starting early is to your advantage. The two fluency development courses we conduct are :

  • COMMUNICATIVE ENGLISH COURSE : Useful for Graduates, PGs, BTechs, MBAs, MCAs, etc. who want to learn to speak fluently in good English at a higher level, while participating in group centric speaking exercises . Those who are keen to work in reputed companies that pay high salaries but insist that their employees speak good ( grammatically correct ) English will find this course very useful .

  • SPOKEN ENGLISH COURSE : Useful for SSLC, +2, ITI, Diploma holders etc. who want to learn the basics of English Grammar as they learn to speak fluently in English while participating in a group centric learning process. ( Note : To develop the confidence to speak fluently in English, group centric learning is essential. Reading books, guides or listening to Spoken English Cassettes or CDs will not be of much help ).

COMPUTERISED ACCENT TRAINING

To win friends and influence people, in order to advance your career ( especially when working in reputed companies ), you must develop the ability to speak English with a good ( Neutral or British ) accent. Malayalees are often made fun of by others for their “Mallu Accent” and are not taken seriously by their colleagues and superiors, who have a good command over the English language.

visit our “language lab” and attend an “audition” conducted by our senior Tutors  who train students for taking the tests conducted by International English Language Testing Systems ( IELTS ) .

If necessary, we will train you to speak English with a good accent, that can win respect, increase your confidence and help you to influence people who matter, thus enabling you to advance your career more quickly.
